Proposed Amendments


Debated Amendments to be voted by private ballot on Monday, July 4.

Amendments to the NEA Constitutional Amendment 1 - Allows flexibility to change percentage of teachers on committees from 75 to 50%.

Bylaw Amendment 1 - NEA will not lobby for or against legislation regarding abortion; including legislation with riders referencing abortion.

Bylaw Amendment 2 - Limit what comes to the floor of the body to the specified objectives of the NEA stated goals.

Bylaw Amendment 3 - $10.00 dues increase to Legislative Crisis and Media Campaign Fund.

New Business Items


Item 9  - Requiring NEA Today to publish an article regarding debate around soy-based products.
              Voted to refer this item to executive committee.

Item 10 - Develop flyers to inform NEA members about work place bullying.
              Adopted.

Item 11 - Wants NEA support to get legislation for undocumented college students to obtain a green card
              Adopted.

Item 12 - Required NEA to negotiate free internet access at hotels for NEA delegates.
               Rejected.

Item 13 - NEA should make available via publications information about alternate pathways after
                high school graduation.
               Adopted.

Item 14 - Anti-bullying campaign for work environment issues.
               Adopted.

Item 15 - Inform NEA members of AARP's stance on Social Security
               Adopted.

Item 16 - Educate members about impact of outsourcing health and human service professionals.
               Adopted.

Item 17 - Promotes closing opt-out loophole for the release of ASVAB testing scores.
               Rejected.

Item 18 - Directs NEA officers to meet with President Obama if endorsed.
               Rejected.

Item 19 - Directed NEA to advocate for a single payer universal health care.
               Adopted.

Item 20 - Boycott to respond to all Koch industry and their products or subsidiaries.
               Referred to committee.

Item 21 - Publicize corporate take-over of American middle class and working people by corporations.
               Adopted.
            
Item 22 - NEA calls for the  immediate dismissal of Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education.
               Rejected.

Item 23 - Increased education around privatization (union busting) using existing communication tools.
               Adopted.

Item 24 - Reform reinbursement policy for NEA executive committee members
               Referred to committee.

Item 25 - Inform NEA members regarding Irlen Syndrome, a light spectrum reading disorder, through an
               article in NEA Today and  on the website.

Item 26 -  Disseminate information regarding mobbing.
                Ruled out of order - refer to new business item 14 due to duplication.
            
Item 27 - Publicize "trade bombs for teachers" campaign.
               Rejected.

Item 28 - Celebrate the diversity of GLBT teachers through NEA Today and other appropriate vehicles.
               Adopted.

Item 29 - Feasibility study for parents to opt their children out of high stakes standardized testing for
               states that prohibit the practice.
               Rejected.

Item 30 - Organize a demonstration in Washington D.C. during the 2012 NEA RA.
               Rejected consideration.

Item 31 - Publicize how teachers and students have had an impact on the recent Arab revolts.
               Rejected.
            
Item 32 - Withdrawn.

Item 33 - NEA will take a position against privatization of the American public school system.
               Adopted.

ESP at Large - Jim McClure (74.29%), Jolene Tripp (57.78%), Jameel Williams (57.28%), Donna Nielsen (59.02%)
          Run-off Required for Marguerite B. Jones (42.03%) and Leslie A. Dake (47.75%)
